I bought the business in May 2013 and Monitronics was already installed. The system was ineffective; the alarm would go off before we could enter the pin every morning but Monitronics NEVER called! It would randomly start talking and announcing when a door was opened when it should have simply chimed.

Accounts receivable was another nightmare! We would pay the bill, and see that the check had cleared our bank, but would get a call from them saying they had not received payment. We would argue and give information about the check that had cleared our bank. They would threaten to shut off our service if we didn't pay. We would pay again! Then receive a credit statement. So....since we had a credit balance we wouldn't submit the next months payment....and get a call saying we owed and they would shut off service if we didn't pay!

But, when you get sick of their poor service and get another security system installed they JUST WON'T LET GO!

I never signed a contract with them in 2013...the system was already installed. But when I called to cancel service in August 2015 I was told I had to send a letter requesting cancellation of service, which I did that same day. After still getting calls and letters I re-sent the letter. Then I got a letter back from them saying there was some missing information on the letter I sent. All the information they said was missing WAS on the first letter. They JUST WON'T LET GO!!!! So, I filled out their form (that had all the information that was in the letter) but I am still getting calls from them.

The call I got today was from their accounts receivable department. They're going to shut off my service if I don't pay. I WANT THEM TO SHUT OFF MY SERVICE!!!! I told her I had cancelled. She said that according to their system my account is still active and if I'd like she could transfer me to their cancellation department.

The next time they contact me, by mail or phone, I will call my lawyer and have him deal with them.

Reason of review: won't cancel service/billing.

Monetary Loss: $140.

Preferred solution: JUST LET GO as of the date I cancelled by phone and credit my account for service from that point..

Monitronics Cons: Billing practices, Cancellation process, Way the system worked from the time it was put in.
