I called today to have my account cancelled after fulfilling 3 years of my agreement with monitronics. After talking to the 1st person, I asked her when did my agreement ended, she said, I can't open that information and let me transfer you to an account manager.

SO she did. This 2nd lady that I was talking to asked me what's reason for cancelling. So i told her, she tried to save me by offering and lowering down my monthly payment. She did put mew on hold for 4 times a guess and the call lasted for more than 30 mins.

I said i'm going to pass on her offer but she just ignored me and kept on offering me more options. Then finally, maybe she ran out of things to offer, she just said, WELL, FOR YOU TO BE ABLE TO CANCEL YOUR ACCOUNT, YOU HAVE TO WRITE US A LETTER! Wow. after she puts me on hold several times and offered me several options, she tells me to send a letter.

But that's not all. The thing that I don't understand is that, if i cancel now and send them the letter, my account will not be cancelled right away but, I STILL HAVE TO STAY AND PAY FOR ANOTHER MONTH AND STILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE FULL MONTHS PAYMENT. Why? I want my account cancelled right away.

Can't montitronics do that?

Yes, I will send them a letter right away to cancel my account but why should I pay for another month? I don't want to pay another month!

I noticed that there are no nice reviews about this company?? If any good reviews exist I'd say they wrote it themselves!

Every one of us has been burned by Monitronics! Same stories Same rude treatment and threats to ruin our credit if we don't pay!

I would have had to hire a lawyer and go to court to get out of it! CROOKS!

THEY DID ME THE SAME WAY! AFTER 2 YEARS OF PAYING THOSE CROOKS, I STILL HAD TO WRITE A FORMAL LETTER AND BEG THEM TO STOP CHARGING ME! PLAIN AND SIMPLE NEVER SIGN WITH MONITRONICS!

Monitronics would not let let me close my account. I called because it was not working, It was tripped several times without a response from them.

I called to get it fixed. another month it was not working so they agreed to cancel and refund my balance, I payed for a year in advance. I then had another system installed that works.

I called about my refund and got the run around so I called my credit card company and they disputed it and refunded me the money. Now they are calling asking for the $303.00 back.

OMG.... I am having the same issue at this same moment.

I;ve been trying to cancel since 12/12/17!!!!!! They claim to send me an email with a link to electronic signature, I have provided them with 2 different email accounts...

and yet nothing!!! But they have no problem pulling the payment from my bank account.

You must call the bank and pay 30 dollars to stop payment and then let them do what the *** they want,but don't keep paying them your money.

Yup, it's a scam. On hold for forty minutes and nothing.

The online chat said they couldn't cancel my services over the chat feature.

Clearly they have trouble retaining customers, so they go to great lengths to make it hard to leave there services. This has to be illegal!!

I have been trying to cancel after my five year contract contract ended I wrote a letter asking them to terminate and even stop payment at my bank but they are still drafting out of my account.i am just fed up. Don't know where else to turn.

I called them twice to cancel my account after 5 years contract and o went through just like you said. Finally they said will sent me a email but the email never come. What should I do now?

I had same problem. It's a scam in that they won't cancel until you respond to an email that you never get.

They continue to bill you. If you scream and complain enough they will say it takes 30 days to cancel.

I have read multiple accounts of them sending even elderly who enter nursing homes and cancelled to bill collectors and collections. With the hundreds of similar and identical complaints, this should be a class action.

We signed up for protection FROM the crooks ... these people ARE the crooks.

I would like to know how you guys got away with one month? We sent cancellation and they wrote back saying we could not cancel for another year!!!

I SENT THEM A LETTER AND AM PUTTING A STOP PAYMENT ON THE ACCOUNT WHERE THEY CAN NOT DRAW ANYMORE MONEY OUT. BECAUSE I CANCELED IT.

THEY EVEN SENT ME A LETTER TELLING ME I COULD NOT CANCEL TIL MARCH AT END OF THREE YEARS.

SO I TURNED AROUND AND SENT THEM THEIR LETTER BACK WITH MY CANCELATION. AND THEY WILL NOT GET ANYMORE MONEY OUT OF ME.

I'm having the same problem. I completed my contract and now they have me on a month to month, yet I have to give a 30 day notice that has to be sent to a PO Box.

They said they will not take it by e-mail or fax. Big rip off to continue billing you until they decide to let you know they have the cancellation.

I'm going through the very same problem with Monitronics. I'll make sure that all 250 members of my HOA are aware of their tactics. They are too happy to take ones money over the phone but require a cancellation letter + additional payment for 1?months service....for what???
