I would give zero stars if that was an option!!! I was lied to by the technician and the sales person who came to my house about this alarm. The sales persons name was Andrew. I was told there was a 12 month contract just to pay for the free equipment and that was it. Went back to cancel at the end and am now finding out that I have a 36 month contract I apparently signed. I understand that I should have taken the time to read the whole contract on the persons little iPad before I signed but I believed the sales person. I asked him several times if it was a longer contract and he said no just the one year. I have spoken to several managers in both companies, it is two separate companies by the way. Direct Protect signs you up and gives you the equipment then Monotronics takes over and neither one takes responsibility for the fact that they have corrupt sales people working for them. I am pursuing what I can but they have my signature on the 36 month contract so there is nothing I can do and they refuse to help me. STAY AWAY FROM THESE COMPANIES!!!!!!!!!! They are just out for you money, they don't care about their customers. This is wrong, they are taking advantage of people just to get a sale.

Monitronics is a scam operation!

Monitronics has continued to bill me even after I had cancelled on the phone, several times!! They claim I asked them for a 3 month hold on account, that I wanted them to move service to my new address. All lies. They never told me I needed to write them in order to cancel service. So I did that and received yet another bill. This time it was for $125.88!!! I have been on the phone with them now, once again for 40 minutes, Ray, #83041 is claiming to "resolve" my situation. I guess we will see. I have no ill will against Monitronics, I used them for over 7 years. However, be aware they do not respond to alarm calls, yes my alarm in Las Vegas went off more than once with no response or phone call from them. I guess shame on me for not cancelling them then. It was their rate that enticed me to stay, but I guess you get what you pay for in life.

Wow, I just called to cancel then after sitting on phone forever, I was told that I can cancel with out paying close to $2000. i informed the rep that I was moving to a house with a security system and didn't need the service anymore. I think I would rather spend 2k on a lawyer then give it to these crooks.

Im writing this comment to the people who seem to like Monitronics security! Wait until your contract is up,and you want to cancel with them for one reason or another!Send them a registered letter about your termination one month before its up,and freeze your account at the bank,Because if you don't they will continue to take your money out ! Good luck ,Because your going to need it! There fine so long as they can get your money! But the minute you stop paying even if your contract is over,Thats when the threatning phone calls start,and they will still bill you!!They are the crookedest company I have ever dealt with! But don't take my word for it,You need to read all the reviews on them!

Well,I just got off the phone with Ashley at Monitronics,And I got no where! She said they were turning me over to collections! So Im contacting the BBB ,And it looks like I need a Lawyer! I refuse to be bullied any longer! My contract ended with Monitronics, I paid them every cent,But they refuse to let me go until I pay more!I received there business,But when I moved they wouldn't let me go,So I continued to pay the contract off,Even though I didn't live there for another two years,But even though I called them and sent them two letters they continued to bill me,So I went to my bank and had the bank manager call them and had my account frozen so they couldn't take any more money out! They told the bank that they would refund me one months worth of payment,and for me to write yet another letter,Which I did. But as soon as I got home I guess they changed there mind because the harassment started all over again! Threats against my credit,And they wanted more money!Even though they sent me a check for one months payment they still insist I owe them! How can they return me a check one minute and call me with threats against my credit the next? Ive got the cancelled check and the paper work from the bank ,and proof I paid them ever penny,Plus copys of the letters I sent them! What kind of business does this?? Now I have to get a Lawyer just to get them off my back!I need protection from a security firm!I,ll let you know how it ends because Im not giving them one *** dime,and I mean it!. Its a matter of principal now! And I will continue to tell everyone on every complaint site there is on the computer,I wont stop until they change there crooked tactics! Monitronics is a scam! Its the worst excuse for an alarm company Ive ever had!

Ive had other companys and never did they treat me the way these people have! Every one of them that I talked to acted the same way towardsme! Very cold and none caring! They must have went to a program so they all learned to dodge your questions and threaten your credit!

There only interest is sqweezing every dime out of there customers!I turned them over to the BBB and Ive had to hire a Lawyer just to get them to stop harassing and bullying me! The only thing they haven't done is threaten to break my legs!

I've had this alarm since 2008 not because i want to they make it difficult for you to leave I've told them that i don't need there service my contract was over in April 2015 when i called they said i was added another year from the last operator i had talk to she took this appon her self to do this i new my contract was over in April that's y i had called for this cancelation so now there telling me i have next April 2016 the and also if i want to cancel this i have to write a letter to the company...I've had so many problems with them from the beginning i am tired and frustrated and desperate for answers and why this is going on...i am also one that pays my bills on time...

Im being Harassed and Threatened by MONITRONICS!

Before you even think about security, Please read this! I am a widow,And decided that a home security would give me a sence of peace and protection,So I had MONITRONICS install home security for me. I was skeptical about the five year contract but they assured me ,that all I needed to do was write a letter if I wasn't happy and the service would be terminated... Well it didn't happen the way they said..I moved after a few years and I called them to terminate...All I got was a nasty man that told me I had signed a contract and there was nothing he could do for me! To make a long story short,I wound up paying for the system even though I didn't live there any more another two and a half years! Because he was partially right,and I knew they would ruin my credit,And the person who bought my house didn't want or like MONITRONICS! I had an option to have them install it in my new home,But Id have to pay for installation,Plus I wasn't happy with there service! After the the contract ended I called again and I wrote a letter to terminate! I thought it was over...Guess again! I checked my account and they were still taking payments! I removed the payments and went to my bank and ask the manager for help! She called them and told them to cease taking payments because the contract was over,They said I hadn't written a letter and knew nothing about it,By that time even though I had written another letter asking them to stop,They had taken almost $300.00 dallars worth out of my account before I realized it! After the bank manager talked to them ,they said they would refund only one payment,And they did send it to me,But because they couldn't get my payments any more They harassed me at least three times a day,And again said I hadn't written them to stop the service!!! So not only did I pay until the contract was over,They insisted I owed them more money!! So not only did they continue to call and threaten to ruin my credit if I didn't pay them yet another $178.00!! I feel I have done more than the right thing towards them,They owe me money and their still trying to bleed me for more!! What kind of business does this??? They claim all disagreements have been worked out and all customers left happy!! Well They are still sending me bills,And threatning my credit! Please if any one knows how I can get away from them without paying yet more,Please let me know! Im at the end of my rope,And now its become a principle! Icant afford a lawyer,But It seems that the only way to solve this problem is to just go ahead and get one! Because if I continue to give them money it wont stop!! Even though I wrote yet another letter,Whats to keep tem from saying they never received that one!! Ive kept copys of both letters and I have a copy of the check they sent me,even tough they still owe me from where they kept taking it out! And I have the original contract I signed and finished paying for,And Ive talked till im blue in the face! It seems the only thing I can do now is hire a lawyer!And I will because Im not giving them any more money!!And they continue to call and harass and threaten me about my credit! Do your self a favor! Don't do what I did!! They were the biggest mistake Ive ever made! Go to another company or buy a guard dog! Anything but use MONITRONICS!!! Or go to Lowes or Home Depot! They have great security systems and there easy to install,Its even wireless,And the best part is no payments! Its what I have now! And it works better than there system! I have a bad heart,and high blood pressure,And they continue to harass me,Dont let it be you,And if my story does'nt stop you from making the same mistake keep reading the rest of the reviews,Im not alone,They threaten everyone. I'll let you know how it goes after I hirea lawyer! Because Im not going to be bullied any more! And I'll continue to warn people about them! Difficulty cancelling account with Monitronics due to its delaying tactics.

I feel like the other customers in the reviews I read, a victim of Monitronics' delaying tactics even though I cancelled the service the same day I switched to another company after 3 yrs. The gentlemen I talked to insisted I write a letter which I did that same day. But I stressed that my cancellation should be recorded on file, with immediate effect. Apparently he did not do that. Several months later, Monitronics demands payment for service it did not provide & is threatening to send the account to collection. Rip-off! This is not right! I am dissatisfied and angry at best!

I had ADT security systems and i cancelled because monitronics offered me pretty much a better deal And since i still had ADT at the time, the person offering me the service told me his company would pay for the cancellation fee wit ADT. That was BS. Its been over a year and i had to pay for that cancellation fee because they just wouldnt keep their promise.. my system right now doesnt work and cannot get th3m to fix it.. the system went off a few times and no one ever knew about it.. very dissapointed and hope everyone pays really good attention to these reviews.. they make it look so simple.. whatch out!! I cannot wait for this contract to be over..

Monitronics - Cancellation Policy Review from Lockeford, California

I spoke to a cancellation rep her name is Ashley 88209. She does not have the future of your company in mind. I had more than six years of service over two homes and she wouldn't allow a cancellation said I had 15 months left on A home I sold that transferred to mine. I had much more than the 36 months of service on the home it transferred to. It is my opinion that all I really needed was six years worth of service over two homes to be able to cancel. Your cancellation contract is too long and your way of calculating the months of service is not fair. I will never recommend Monitronics again.
