Why is it so hard to cancel my account? | Monitronics review from Tampa, Florida

I called today to have my account cancelled after fulfilling 3 years of my agreement with monitronics. After talking to the 1st person, I asked her when did my agreement ended, she said, I can't open that information and let me transfer you to an account manager. SO she did. This 2nd lady that I was talking to asked me what's reason for cancelling. So i told her, she tried to save me by offering and lowering down my monthly payment. She did put mew on hold for 4 times a guess and the call lasted for more than 30 mins. I said i'm going to pass on her offer but she just ignored me and kept on offering me more options. Then finally, maybe she ran out of things to offer, she just said, WELL, FOR YOU TO BE ABLE TO CANCEL YOUR ACCOUNT, YOU HAVE TO WRITE US A LETTER! Wow. after she puts me on hold several times and offered me several options, she tells me to send a letter. But that's not all. The thing that I don't understand is that, if i cancel now and send them the letter, my account will not be cancelled right away but, I STILL HAVE TO STAY AND PAY FOR ANOTHER MONTH AND STILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE FULL MONTHS PAYMENT. Why? I want my account cancelled right away. Can't montitronics do that? Yes, I will send them a letter right away to cancel my account but why should I pay for another month? I don't want to pay another month!

Monitronics would not let let me close my account. I called because it was not working, It was tripped several times without a response from them.

I called to get it fixed. another month it was not working so they agreed to cancel and refund my balance, I payed for a year in advance. I then had another system installed that works.

I called about my refund and got the run around so I called my credit card company and they disputed it and refunded me the money. Now they are calling asking for the $303.00 back.

OMG.... I am having the same issue at this same moment.

I;ve been trying to cancel since 12/12/17!!!!!! They claim to send me an email with a link to electronic signature, I have provided them with 2 different email accounts...

and yet nothing!!! But they have no problem pulling the payment from my bank account.

You must call the bank and pay 30 dollars to stop payment and then let them do what the *** they want,but don't keep paying them your money.

Yup, it's a scam. On hold for forty minutes and nothing.

The online chat said they couldn't cancel my services over the chat feature.

Clearly they have trouble retaining customers, so they go to great lengths to make it hard to leave there services. This has to be illegal!!

I have been trying to cancel after my five year contract contract ended I wrote a letter asking them to terminate and even stop payment at my bank but they are still drafting out of my account.i am just fed up. Don't know where else to turn.

I had same problem. It's a scam in that they won't cancel until you respond to an email that you never get.

They continue to bill you. If you scream and complain enough they will say it takes 30 days to cancel.

I have read multiple accounts of them sending even elderly who enter nursing homes and cancelled to bill collectors and collections. With the hundreds of similar and identical complaints, this should be a class action.

My name is Barbara Ivy. In 2013 I tried Brinks Home Security System. I thought it was a month by month obligation. I realized I was locked into a five year contract. In 2018, I tried to cancel the contract simply because it wasn't working for my family. Recently, I completed a contract cancellation form on line. I was told to complete one sent to my home as well. But, funds have continued to be drafted from my account. Please refund my acount six months to year. I have contacted several people in the company. I have not been able to get this matter resolved.

when the reps came to my home I thought I was singing a 1 year contract. I was no longer going to live at the house (this was in Puerto Rico) I told them no one will be in the house, they wanted me to get someone else to take over the contract or the next person who would be in the house. I told them I am closing the house and moving to the states. Then told me they would not cancel because I had a three year contract. I was too busy to keep arguing as I was packing to leave. So, they kept deducting from my bank however, when Brinks took over they could not deduct from my bank as I do not have a contract with Brinks and I did not give them any bank information. Then the hurricane came and there was no electric service for months and they still had deducted. I never got reimbursed for the time there was no electricity, I kept getting calls that the signal was going off. I explained no one is at the house. I do not need the service. They did not listen. Now brinks keeps calling me to make payments. I explained to several reps the situation and the last one I told her why should I pay for something I am not using and no one seems to want to resolve my problem. They have threatened to ruin my credit at times they just stay quiet and let me talk with no response, they just keep asking when am I going to make a payment. So, last call I told her I cannot pay but will look into my budget if I have money left over I will send something. I tried to get into the account to make a minimal payment and now my account number, email and password are not recognized Wtf , so screw them.

Paying for an alarm system that hasn't worked in 2 months | Monitronics review from Stone Mountain, Georgia

My alarm system hasn't worked for about 2 months or more. I called the alarm company several times, Monitronics/Brinks to help troubleshoot, to no avail. They were quick to suggest a technician come out and take a look and charge me $50! This is the second time they suggest I have a technician come out for something that I could have done with the right assistance to troubleshoot from the alarm company professionals. The 1st time they charged me $50 to place a sensor on my door after I had a new door installed!! Waste of money! That's taking advantage of an extremely longtime customer and I refuse to be taken advantage of any longer by them. I never had a problem with monitronics until they became affiliated with brinks. It was downhill from there. Now I want to cancel my service with them and they are giving me the runaround. They refuse to cancel my alarm system, alarm system isn't working and they are still billing me for services they are not performing.

UNFAIR PRACTICES BY MONITRONICs

I had service with Monitronics for over 5 years at my old home address. I did not have an issue with their service. However we sold that house and moved toa neighboring city. I informed Monitronics of our sale and was told to contact them when we bought the new home. The would suspend service until we could settle our new home. The new home had the exact Brinks Security system in the new home with more features we would have activated. When I called Monitronics I was told I was supposed to take their equipment off the walls doors and winds and bring it with me. No one told me that before when I told them we were moving. I was told that since I didn't bring the old equipment with me, I would have to sign a new 3-year contract to restart my service in the new home. I already have 19 months still remaining on my old contract. I will just keep the service suspended and pay for 19 months of no service before signing a new contract when their equipment in in the house and all that should be done is activation. All Monitronics wants is to lock you in to another 3-year contract at every turn. I have been a loyal customer with them, but will no longer use their service after this fiasco! This is the worst customer service I have ever dealt with! With them it appears it is more about the money that the service.

Alarm keeps beeping, every minute or so. | Monitronics review from New Bedford, Massachusetts

For the last two days, the alarm after being shut off, keeps beeping. It beeps 6x then after a couple of minutes beeps 6x again. We have checked the module and it is fine. Do we need to change the battery on the second door sensor? If we do, how do we do this. We don't know how to open the sensor. We have had the alarm for approximately 20 years and this is the first time we have run into this problem. Please let us know how to fix this, it is very annoying, especially in the middle of the night. Linda & Steve Douglas

Horrible customer service and shady practices overall. We no longer live in the house that we have alarm system. We have been trying to cancel the account for several months with no luck. To the point that we were willing to pay off the rest of the contract, we were initially offered a discounted prorated payoff amount. We decided to think about and call back another day. We did called back and were told that they do not offer a discount prorate and that if we will have to payoff the remaining total in full. The customer service lady just plain to me that the other customer service representative had lie to me. I will never use this company again and I will make sure no one that I know does either.

Failure to refund Credit Balance when I moved from Arizona to Florida. | Monitronics review from Glendale, California

Each time I call there, I get a different customer care representative. Also, in addition to a different person, I get a different answer. I called them in August of 2018 to cancel effective September 3rd and nothing happened. I moved to Florida, and within 4 or five days of my arrival there, I was called by a local Brinks ?? and they sent a man out to give me an estimate on Security service. When he told me that it would cost $500 up front I tried to remind him that the office in Arizona had promised me FREE INSTALLATION at my new address and a decent discount in my monthly fees. The Representative indicated that he knew nothing of the sort, and had nothing to do with my old system. So I kindly refused further service. I had a different company install new service. Two calls later, I'm still awaiting my CREDIT BALANCE REFUND. Thus far over 50 days has elapsed since I first contacted them and there has been no refund. I supposed I should go to consumer affairs and/ or the BBB?

This is monitronics/brinks.have called to cancel their services. I called on the 3rd, could not get anyone and so one. Talked to someone on 10/9/2018, he says he has cancelled and I need to e-sign. Have not received it as of yet. They have billed and taken money from my account. I asked for a refund and supervisor, says they could not refund, because have not been cancelled. Says still active and I am with other company. I had been with this company since 2012. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY TO ANYONE!!!
