Verified ReviewerI want to cancel the caaount.
My alarm system malfunctions sometimes. The last time I could not turn it off.
It beeped all day and night. Want to cancel the service, but they would not do it unless I paid $500. Said I had a phone contract. We never made a phone contract.
I have been trying to cancel the service for a couple of years. I am 96 years old and don't know how long I will be in this house. They said I have 22 months to go.
I will be 98 by the time this contract ends. I am afraid they will enact another so-called phone contract without calling me.
- Cannot cancel even though system does not work
Preferred solution: Full refund
User's recommendation: Use another company

Verified Reviewer | Summerville, South CarolinaMonitronics Money Grab by Brinks
This is a money grab by Brinks the new owner of Monitronics. After not receiving any statements for years and not benefiting from being monitored.
This is a criminal act and should be subject to class action for all who have been mistreated here. I am not planning on paying one dime to these crooks as they are stealing from honest hard working people.
- No customer service
- Poor customer service
- Not keeping what they offer

I've never seen a company who offers a service that you cannot cancel.
I terminated my service with Monitronics over 5 years ago after having the service for about four years. I paid whatever amounts they said were due.
The service was turned off. It is now 5 years later and I have been sent to a collection agency because they say I still owe $93.00 (for what????) I have not even received a letter that an unpaid bill is still due from Monitronics, however, I was sent to collections.
User's recommendation: This is a scam company.

Disappointed
the address of the house that was monitored was 14339 MoonValley, Victorville, California 92394--Michael Matute
This company charged me a whole year after I disconnected and called them-I was not even living at that "monitored" home during that year. I sent them a singed letter and called them several times when I left the house.. They did not return my money.
- No more service with this company
Preferred solution: Full refund
User's recommendation: return my money!!!
Sent me to collections after 5 years of not having there service
I just got a collection notice form Monotronics after canceling my alarm system 5 years ago. What the *** how to I handle this no number to call at all.
Preferred solution: Take this off my credit report I do not owe anything
Dissatisfied customer
This has to be the worst company I ever have done business with. The alarm system at my shop failed, they sent unqualified people out four times and never did fix the system.
Now they have turned me into collections for not continuing in my contract. This is after I paid them a settlement. Do not do business with this company!
You will not be happy. Again, this is the worst company I have ever done business with!
- Customer service dishonest
- Lack of quality service
Preferred solution: Honor our settlement agreement.
User's recommendation: RUN!
Monitronics is a RIP off
They put a $4100.on our credit report that suppose to own them who would let someone not pay for that long we haven't had any service with them in about 7 years. Then we find out they are using Vision security on our credit report never heard of these people.
User's recommendation: Don't use them

Verified Reviewer | Greenville, North CarolinaMultiple bills after the account was closed
We had a monitronics account on our home in Nashville TN. The contract was for 2 years but we moved in one year (though we still owned the property).
We terminated the contract early and PAID A PENALTY. (This is important). The service was turned off. It is now 9 years later and we received a collections notice that an unpaid bill from Monitronics was sent to collections.
We received a similar notice about 3 years ago and paid it. We have not heard anything from them until we received yet another threatening bill from a collections agency.

Victim of fraud with Monitronics
Monitronics called me several times saying I have a contract with them for an alarm system. I NEVER applied for any alarm at any company.
I do not own a home alarm. I do not know how Moni got my information. I requested a copy of their contract to see what was written on it. The contract sent to me was an e-DocuSign online from some else email not mines, the address used was a vacant house, the bank account wasnt mine and the signature wasnt mine.
But this company continue to harass me about a bill I NEVER had with them. I have proved this account with Moni is FRAUD and to this day Monitronics continue to tell me its my account and IT IS NOT MINE.
This company is horrible they do Not investigate anything so dont waste your time waiting. Monitronics continues to forward this FRAUD ACCOUNT to collection agencies and still I proved its fraud.
- Harassment
Preferred solution: Stop harassing me for an account I never applied for.
User's recommendation: Don’t buy
I need to get out of this contract
My name is Barbara Ivy. In 2013 I tried Brinks Home Security System.
I thought it was a month by month obligation. I realized I was locked into a five year contract. In 2018, I tried to cancel the contract simply because it wasn't working for my family. Recently, I completed a contract cancellation form on line.
I was told to complete one sent to my home as well. But, funds have continued to be drafted from my account. Please refund my acount six months to year.
I have contacted several people in the company. I have not been able to get this matter resolved.
I get no service and they won't cancel.
when the reps came to my home I thought I was singing a 1 year contract. I was no longer going to live at the house (this was in Puerto Rico) I told them no one will be in the house, they wanted me to get someone else to take over the contract or the next person who would be in the house.
I told them I am closing the house and moving to the states. Then told me they would not cancel because I had a three year contract. I was too busy to keep arguing as I was packing to leave. So, they kept deducting from my bank however, when Brinks took over they could not deduct from my bank as I do not have a contract with Brinks and I did not give them any bank information.
Then the hurricane came and there was no electric service for months and they still had deducted. I never got reimbursed for the time there was no electricity, I kept getting calls that the signal was going off. I explained no one is at the house. I do not need the service.
They did not listen.
Now brinks keeps calling me to make payments. I explained to several reps the situation and the last one I told her why should I pay for something I am not using and no one seems to want to resolve my problem. They have threatened to ruin my credit at times they just stay quiet and let me talk with no response, they just keep asking when am I going to make a payment.
So, last call I told her I cannot pay but will look into my budget if I have money left over I will send something. I tried to get into the account to make a minimal payment and now my account number, email and password are not recognized , so screw them.
- I liked the service just want my final bill
- Cancellation policy
Preferred solution: cancel my account and keep the money I have already paid for service I did not receive.
Paying for an alarm system that hasn't worked in 2 months
My alarm system hasn't worked for about 2 months or more. I called the alarm company several times, Monitronics/Brinks to help troubleshoot, to no avail.
They were quick to suggest a technician come out and take a look and charge me $50! This is the second time they suggest I have a technician come out for something that I could have done with the right assistance to troubleshoot from the alarm company professionals.
The 1st time they charged me $50 to place a sensor on my door after I had a new door installed!! Waste of money! That's taking advantage of an extremely longtime customer and I refuse to be taken advantage of any longer by them.
I never had a problem with monitronics until they became affiliated with brinks.
It was downhill from there.
Now I want to cancel my service with them and they are giving me the runaround. They refuse to cancel my alarm system, alarm system isn't working and they are still billing me for services they are not performing.
- Price
Preferred solution: Cancel my service as I've been requesting and refund my money for the two months my alarm system was not working.
UNFAIR PRACTICES BY MONITRONICs
I had service with Monitronics for over 5 years at my old home address. I did not have an issue with their service.
However we sold that house and moved toa neighboring city. I informed Monitronics of our sale and was told to contact them when we bought the new home. The would suspend service until we could settle our new home. The new home had the exact Brinks Security system in the new home with more features we would have activated.
When I called Monitronics I was told I was supposed to take their equipment off the walls doors and winds and bring it with me. No one told me that before when I told them we were moving. I was told that since I didn't bring the old equipment with me, I would have to sign a new 3-year contract to restart my service in the new home. I already have 19 months still remaining on my old contract.
I will just keep the service suspended and pay for 19 months of no service before signing a new contract when their equipment in in the house and all that should be done is activation. All Monitronics wants is to lock you in to another 3-year contract at every turn. I have been a loyal customer with them, but will no longer use their service after this fiasco!
This is the worst customer service I have ever dealt with! With them it appears it is more about the money that the service.
- Getting more and more anoid
- Nasty attitude of the customer service representative
Preferred solution: Let the company propose a solution

This happens when an established business is bought out by another. The new one goes thru the accounts and finds "problems" like yours and thus bills people, hoping they will just pay, but if they don't, then they usually just write it off so the books balance. If you don't owe it, then don't pay it.
